Class Descriptions

The following are descriptions of our regular classes offered each semester. In addition to these, you may be interested in other special offerings found in our calendar.

Pre-Ballet I - A ballet class for children ages 2 1/2 - 4 years old. Focusing on musical awareness, development of locomotor skills, basic ballet positions of the feet, with focus on port de bra and development of spacial awarness.

Pre Ballet II - A continuation of Pre-Ballet I adding balances and locomotor skills with a focus of working on weight change and movement on one leg.

Foundation (Ballet,Tap,Jazz) - For children 5 & 6 years old. Fundamentals of ballet, tap or jazz emphasizing the continued development of musical awareness and locomotor skills.

Ballet I-VI - Beginning study of classical ballet training. Based on the Vaganova technique the students syllabus training is essential for the full development of the ballet technique. Focus on body placement, musicality, strength and flexibility. The study of pointe and modern are introduced in ballet IV.

Hip-Hop - Students will learn the latest funky dance moves and dance to the latest in hip-hop, rap, and techno music. Jazz technique is incorporated in the combinations and dances that are learned. This is a fun class for everyone who wants to become a better dancer!

Jazz - This contemporary dance form combines the energetic styles of music videos with theater jazz and street funk. It's popular with every age group, come join the fun!

Lyrical - This class is a combination of ballet, jazz and modern. Students learn about the art of expressive dance. Lyrical dance class offers the students the luxury of working on understanding the quality of each movement and how it is expressed to the audience. Lyrical dance class makes each student stronger technically as well as improving their performing qualities.

Modern - An innovative dance style based on the techniques of todays leading modern dance companies. One of the most creative movements in the dance world, it requires flexibility, strength, and an open mind for experimentation.

Tap - Learning the intricacy of rhythm along with executing the clarity of tap sound, we strive to teach to use the feet as a percussive instrument. Rhythm tap is taught at the higher levels.

Pilates - Based on the teachings of Joseph Pilates. Kristen Samson, a certified Pilates teacher through the Physical Mind Institute, teaches a 60 minute mat class. The Pilates Method was developed to fit each person's physical capabilities to correct imbalances, physical incapabilities and weaknesses. The Method is for anyone who wants to move with greater ease, flexibility and strength.

Yogilates® - A form of body conditioning invented by Jonathan Urla. This unique class is the only one of its kind on the seacoast. Yogilates® is the combination of the Pilates Method with Hatha and Asana Yoga. Kristen Samson is a certified instructor of the Yogilates® method through Jonathan Urla in NYC.

Street Funk - Students will learn a contemporary style of dance moves that will incorporate floor work. This class is all about being funky. Come and learn how funky you can be.
