About the School
Portsmouth School of Ballet is dedicated to professional instruction with one-on-one attention. The program's focus in on Ballet Technique and the development of technical skills for each student. The school's Ballet program is based on a Vaganova syllabus. The school director, Kristen Samson, has her degree in Vaganova Ballet Technique and Pedagogy from the Hartford Ballet. The school's faculty consists of professionals with extensive performing dance backgrounds as well as college degrees in Dance Education.
The school offers classes for students ages 2½ to adults in Pre-Ballet, Foundation, Combination classes (3½ to 6 years of age), Ballet Technique I - VI, Pointe, Variations, Boys Ballet Classes, Pas de deux, Tap, Modern, Lyrical, Jazz, Hip-hop, Street Funk, Pilates and Yogilates.
The school performs an annual all-student production of the Nutcracker and end of the year Spring Performance and for the Prescott Park Arts Festival. The school has two semesters throughout the year -- September to January and January to June. Every summer the school hosts a five-week Summer Dance Program, a week-long Summer Dance Intensive with guest teachers, and a Student Company Dance Camp.

We are dedicated to each student at the school and are available for the students and the parents. The school's policy is that your dance education should be a fun and rewarding experience.
Any student can be asked to change levels, take additional classes or advance as to the discretion of the instructors and the schools artistic director. A student also can be asked to leave the program at any time for midconduct or unappropriate behavior as of the discretion of the instructors and the schools artistic director.
